Implementation of a smart metering project for part of the Surco and San Isidro areas, using LPWAN wireless technology in 2.4GHz (free frequency and without licensing risk). This project is part of the AMI pilots recognized by OSINERGMIN. This pilot project arises from the search for smart metering technology with the best performance according to the criteria set out by Osinergmin in the regulations for the deployment of smart meters in electricity companies.
A project was implemented consisting of the installation of 02 Access Points (one at SET chacarilla and the other at the San Isidro offices) for Luz del Sur, which emit a radiofrequency signal that allows communication with more than 20 thousand meters per Access Point. The pilot project only consists of 2,000 meters in total and a management software installed in the manufacturer’s servers, through which access is gained via Internet and the management of readings, outages, interruption detection, profile downloading, among other actions, is carried out.
Luz del Sur needed to implement a system that would reduce maintenance costs, as well as eliminate dependence on cellular technology and avoid the need to install a lot of communication equipment for possible future deployments.
Benefits
With this implementation, it was possible to obtain a smart metering technology that does not require a lot of equipment to cover a large area and a high number of smart meters. In addition, Luz del Sur will not have to depend on a third party cellular provider. Customers with smart meters have a much more accurate reading of their consumption and a better quality of service since LUZ DEL SUR will be able to detect any anomaly or service failure and take action even before the phone calls to the central office.
Innovative Solution
The project uses a long-range LPWAN radiofrequency solution that allows to manage meters and other applications such as street lighting remote management. And it allows complete INDEPENDENCE from the cellular communications provider.
