About project
Client: Electrosur
Year: 2022
The LPWAN ELECTROSUR Smart Metering System Project consists of the installation of 02 Access Points in the city of Tacna. This equipment emits a radiofrequency signal that allows communication with more than 20 thousand meters per Access Point. The pilot project consists of a total of 1,500 meters and management software installed on the manufacturer’s servers, which can be accessed via the Internet to manage readings, outages, interruption detection, profile downloading, among other actions.
The smart metering project was implemented in some urban areas of Tacna, which uses LPWAN wireless technology in 2.4GHz (free frequency and without licensing risk). Customers with smart meters have a much more accurate reading of their consumption and a better quality of service since ELECTROSUR will be able to detect any anomaly or service failure and take action even before phone calls to the central office.
The company needed to implement a technology that has a large capacity (more than 15 thousand meters per Access Point) and great coverage (more than 5km range of each Access Point), that does not depend on cellular technology and take advantage of its use for other applications such as remote management of lighting or control of distribution equipment. This project is part of the AMI pilots recognized by OSINERGMIN.
LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) technology is an innovative long-range radiofrequency solution that offers a secure, reliable and low power consumption connection for meter management and other applications such as street lighting remote management. This technology is a state-of-the-art solution that offers a viable alternative to the use of cellular networks to measure and manage energy consumption in buildings. This solution offers better quality of service, reliability and security by using a private network for communication.
