About project
Client: Luz del Sur
Year: 2022
Luz del Sur has decided to invest in an innovative application to improve the quality of the electric service provided to its customers. This application, called FLISR (Fault Location Isolation and Service Restoration), will be implemented for the first time in Peru by the company Procetradi.
The FLISR project is being implemented in 15 strategic points of Luz del Sur’s distribution network. This will allow the automatic restoration of service once the faulty network has been cleared. Automation with FLISR generates great benefits, such as cost, time and effort savings in locating, isolating the faulted network branch and restoring the power supply.
In addition, FLISR implementation includes the integration of GPRS communication equipment, load break switches and a data concentrator (RTU), configured with advanced algorithms designed to optimize the response to power outage events. This ensures efficient and rapid contingency management, significantly improving the customer experience and strengthening the reliability of the electrical service offered by Luz del Sur.
Outreach: Procetradi was able to execute all the activities scheduled within the work plan for the FLISR project, meeting the requirements and standards established by LDS, as well as the best practices for FLISR systems. Efficient management and coordination between the highly experienced LDS and Procetradi teams resulted in significant improvements in the algorithms, ensuring the successful implementation of the first FLISR system. This system has increased LDS’s ability to automatically identify and isolate faults in the power grid, minimizing outage time and improving the quality of power delivered to users.
The company gained several benefits from the project and the implemented solution. These include:
– Improved ability of the system to respond quickly and effectively to grid outage events.
– Minimization of outage time.
– Improvement in the quality of energy delivered to users.
– Increased reliability and resilience of the power supply.
– Experience gained to plan and execute similar FLISR projects in the future, keeping the system updated and adapted to the changing needs of the operating environment.
– Compliance with the Smart Grid roadmap of the Peruvian government’s MINEM, which includes the automation of electric grids.
